Rome - In order to turn financial market nightmare into a pleasant evening, an Italian bar in Courgne of northern Italy decided to serve “Spreadings Cocktails.” The price of the cocktails changes depending on the infamous and unstable Italian and German bonds on the same evening.
Simone Liore, a 29-year-old web designer pitched the idea in his local bar with profits all going to the charity. The bar offers a variety of concoctions, from German beer to French cassis – all served in a martini glass.
The cocktails fixed price is 2.5 euros or ($3.4). With an unsteady market spread, the price changes after the markets close. An addition of 0.5 euros is added to the price if the spread is 500 points; 0.4 euros if it is only 400 points.
Liore said that it’s one way of reducing the anxiety in Italy’s financial market and spread. Moreover, it has also opened up an opportunity for people to help those who are in need.
For these past few weeks, the market spread between Italian and German government bonds had reached record levels and had become a source of jokes among the Italians who are not totally informed on the financial and market status.
