Classes in Chicago focuses on cocktail enthusiasts

Classes in Chicago focuses on cocktail enthusiastsAs bartenders, or mixologists, increasingly depend on rare spirits, fresh juices and homemade bitters, America is seeing a big leap on its cocktail culture.

Since the infamous Prohibition era, New York, San Francisco and Chicago’s cocktail drinkers put more emphasis on handcrafted cocktails using the finest ingredients. It’s no wonder that two of the new businesses focused on filling your bar, teaching you how to mix a proper drink and even catering your own cocktail event.

Although it is a weeknight, Tim Williams is teaching a class at Wicker Park studio. He is a former bartender at Province, but now he runs Pour Souls Mixology company.  He is in the middle of a busy season teaching cocktail enthusiasts the proper way to mix a drink along with other finer points. Accordingly, Wiliams said that when you’re friends are coming over at your home, you could offer nice cocktails instead of the usual beer and wine.

Williams is also in cocktail catering which takes Chicago’s entertainment scene into different new level.

Aside from Williams, Ravae Schneider is a new entrepreneur in the field. Her company, Femme Du Coupe, which is located at the second floor of River North flower shop, covers from bar setup to cocktail consulting.

Her classes cover more than drinking recipes. In fact, it focuses on every element: from the right tools, choosing the right base spirit and mixing the right fresh juices, to syrups and the proper bitters to throw in your drink.

Williams and Schneider’s classes are meant to be fun, though they suggested having someone to drive you home after each class. Classes cost $30 to $40 per person, including three cocktails.
